Pink is my Favorite Color

OK ladies although it is nearing the end of the Month; Breast cancer Awareness Month that is...it is always to be aware of your breast health. Here are some important factoids: Only 5-10 percent of breast cancers are hereditary. This means we have a lot more control over our risk than we previously thought. The National Breast Cancer Foundation estimates that each year, over 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and over 40,000 die. One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Approximately 1,700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die each year. The odds of getting the disease do increase as you age. But breast cancer can occur at any age. That's why all women need to be vigilant. Though experts recommend yearly mammograms starting at age 40, your doctor may suggest that you start even earlier if you have a family history of breast cancer at a young age. About 1 out of every 7 women will get breast cancer over a 90-year life span. The Good news: By doing all steps – monthly breast self-exams, annual clinical exams and annual mammograms starting at the age of 40 – you give yourself the best chance to live your best life possible. More than 95% of women whose breast cancer is caught in its earliest stages will be healthy and disease-free within 5 years after their diagnosis and treatment.
